This review contains spoilers for both Black Phone and Black Phone 2.
Since the first Black phone came out, viewers like myself have been eager to see the second one. On Oct. 17, Black Phone 2 was released and it instantly became one of my favorite horror movies by far.
In the first movie, the main character Finny and his best friend Robin were taken by the Grabber, a masked serial killer. Robin was taken before Finny and was killed by the Grabber. Not long after, Finny was taken too. Not wanting to face the same fate, he became determined to make it out alive. Finny made it out and had to kill the Grabber in the process to ensure his safety.
The second movie is similar to the first, except the Grabber comes back to haunt Finny through his little sister, Gwen. During this time, Gwen started having realistic dreams about the Grabber and her mom, who had passed away. Finny, Gwen and Robin’s little brother went to Alpine Lake, a catholic camp where the grabber committed his first murders, to investigate the camp’s dark story and stop the grabber from killing Gwen.
In the end, they managed to freeze the Grabber’s spirit into the lake and properly bury the boys that were his first victims, also putting the families of those boys relieved that their remains were recovered.
The purpose of the Black Phone 2 was to get rid of the Grabber for good and let all his victims rest in peace, allowing their spirits to leave their bodies.
This was an overall great movie and the characters have changed by not only getting older but the characters development as well. Fin was able to overcome his fear and anger caused by the Grabber, Gwen had also had realization and was able to help take down the grabber by becoming stronger in her dreams through regaining control and overpowering the Grabber. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys horror and thriller movies.
