As we transition from one month another, we asked our staff members to share what media they consumed in the month of February.
Tristan: This past month I watched the new Jeff Buckley documentary: “It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley.” Not only was the cinematic production beautiful, but so is Buckley’s story. His personal upbringing as a child of a young single mother and his upbringing in local music shaped him to be the person he was: someone who left a lasting effect on those around him. I enjoyed learning about all of the details behind some of his most known songs and performances. I’d definitely give this movie a 10/10.
Valentina: On Feb. 27, the song “Risk It All” by Bruno Mars came out and was immediately added to my future wedding playlist that includes all of my romantic songs. “Risk It All” is a romantic song about having total devotion and unconditional love for the person you love. My favorite lyrics are “say you want the moon / Watch me learn to fly / Ain ‘t no mountain you could point to / I wouldn’t climb.” I think these lyrics express perfectly what it is to be in love with someone and loving them unconditionally, because you would do anything to make them happy, like grab the moon and climb a mountain if that’s what they wanted.
Tristain: Over this past month, I’ve been looking into different fashion archives; mainly ones that focus on ones with darker aspects such as Rick Owens and Chrome Hearts, but mainly focused on their variety of colorful city handbags. Chrome Hearts has caught my eye with their gothic-like designs using religion while making it grudge, which surprisingly work well together. As I’ve been told, a cuter softer aesthetic along with using brighter colors would suit me more. I’ve also been looking into trying to incorporate layering and adding more bright blues, red, and yellow into my fashion, along with one of my favorite colors, pink. I want to try adding patterns and textures like polka dots, camo, leather and fur to my outfits.
Marley: Throughout Feb. I listened to The Sundays more frequently. The album “Blind” has some of my favorites that includes “Blood On My Hands”, “On Earth”, and “Love.” The slower, melancholy sounds led me through this past month into the beginning of Spring. The vocals of Harriet Wheeler along with the other members playing the bass, guitar, and drums also gave me all the nostalgia. Their lyrics bring both the emotional and romantic depths into that early 90s alternative rock nature.
Emmie: This past month I have been really enjoying “Adopt Me” on Roblox. I was reminiscing about the pets I used to have and also feeling bad for the pets that have been stuck in my inventory. So I decided to rejoin the game and I fell back in love with it. I have since gotten a neon fly ride turtle, a neon hammerhead shark, neon fly ride unicorn, a fly elephant and my favorite so far a neon alicorn.
Vicki: During Feb. I re-discovered a song called “Reminders” by Mariah The Scientist. It is a song about her remembering her past toxic relationships. “Every jazz band / holding hands / ‘Could I have this dance?’ / reminds me of a bad man,” which indicates that she is remembering her unlucky experiences with them. She also includes a line saying she knows they didn’t mean to do it which contradicts her bittersweet defeat. In the end I would recommend this song to any one who likes R&B/Soul and wants to listen to different genres of music.
Ellery: During Feb. I’ve been listening to a lot of Dance Gavin Dance. I love Jonny Craig’s and Tilian Pearson’s vocals. My favorite songs are Perfect, Death of a Strawberry and Lemon Meringue Tie.
