This review contains spoilers for “Lee Cronin’s The Mummy.”
“Lee Cronin’s The Mummy,” released on April 17, is a suspense and horror-filled movie. Taking place in Aswan, Egypt, a little girl is kidnapped, possessed by a demon, wrapped like a mummy and put into a tomb. This movie shows the struggles the family went through trying to get their daughter back, not understanding what happened to her.
At the beginning of the movie, I was expecting the typical unsuspenseful expedition; instead, it started with the kidnapping of a girl named Katie Cannon. This made me believe she would be the main character of the movie.
After being kidnapped, Katie’s parents, Charlie and Larrisa Cannon, searched for her for eight years. I thought after she’d been found, everything would go back to normal but this wasn’t the case. Katie was in a catatonic state.
Katie’s parents were happy she was home but knew something was wrong. The family had now extended with her parents, brother, grandmother and now a new little sister. The grandma, being religious, prayed for her granddaughter.
Due to Katie being possessed, she attacks her grandma, throws her out the window and she gets eaten alive by coyotes. I thought this was a big turning point for the family, deciding whether or not Katie was safe to be around the family.
When she went missing, a detective in Egypt had been constantly working on Katie’s case, even after she had been found. Finding a film of what happened to Katie, she brought it back to her parents, showing them what happened and what can be done to save her.
This intrigued me because it gave me hope that she could be saved and the girl she once was can be brought back. Figuring out how to save her, Katie turns her brother and her sister against their parents, trying to attack and kill them.
Throughout this process, the detective who knew the chant to switch the demon into another host had been stabbed in the throat. She was barely able to do the chant and the father sacrificed himself to save his daughter.
With the family back to normal, though they lost their dad and Larrisa lost her husband, they came up with a plan to transfer the demonic spirit to the woman who had transferred the demon to Katie.
After this happened, the family was able to live in peace while the demon was stuck in the woman’s body, unable to escape.
My least favorite part of this was when the daughter threw her grandma out of the window and it showed her being eaten by coyotes. It was a gruesome scene and it gave me the heebie-jeebies.
My favorite part was when the family was able to resolve the whole issue and transfer the demon into the lady who started the whole mess, this woman ended up getting her karma, and the family was able to have a happy ending.
