As Feb. comes to an end, the annual philanthropic week, Double Wolf Dare Week (DWDW), began on Feb. 23. The dress-up theme for Monday was white-out and neon, which was followed by an opening assembly that had blacklight performances from numerous Santa Fe performance teams: pom, cheer, stomp, color guard and the drumline.
The assembly began as the lights went off, the black lights turned on and the mats rolled out. First to perform was the pom team; as they danced, a mix of the songs including, “Move Shake Drop” by Pitbull, “Beep Beep” by Nicki Minaj, “Glow” by GlorRilla, “Nokia” by Drake, “Sticky” by Tyler, The Creator, “Crazy in Love” by Beyonce and ending with “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar, played in the background. They worked on these routines since returning from winter break.
“I thought the performance was amazing,” Spanish teacher and pom sponsor Haley Crane said. “They really pulled everything together, and it turned out great.”
After pom finished their dance, intermission music played to transition to the next performers: the cheer squad.
The team performed coordinated jumps and dance moves to various songs including: “MY HOUSE” by Beyoncé, “Pon de Replay” by Rihanna and “Get Low” by Lil Jon and The East Side Boyz.
“I loved our performance and think it came together very well,” cheerleader and junior Tyjanae Johnson said.
After the mats were rolled back up, the next to perform was the stomp team. They danced in sync while stomping the floor to create a rhythmic sound.
During the intermission after stomp’s performance, the guys in student council (StuBros), played their annual Wake-Up videos where students sign up peers to be woken up at night by the StuBros.
Continuing with the performances, color guard performed their routine with choreographed dances, as well as flag and rifle spinning. They danced to the songs “My House” by Beyoncé, “Jump” by Tyla, “exes” by Tate McRae, “7/11” and “Diva” by Beyoncé. They began practicing right after winter break.
“I will definitely do it again,” member of the color guard danceline and junior Eloise Stiglets said.
Lastly, the drumline played their classic standtunes and students rose from their seats to dance and cheer. The crowd was hyped for the beginning of DWDW, the most anticipated week of the year, where fundraising and fun come together.
