On Oct. 2nd, Santa Fe’s volleyball teams (Unified, freshmen, JV and Varsity) played against Yukon. The Wolves defeated Yukon in every game. It was also senior night for the volleyball team.
The Unified team scored 2-0, ending the game off with a win. Junior Eli Fina has been a part of Unified volleyball for two years.
“My favorite part of being a part of unified volleyball is helping kids with disabilities get to experience playing a sport,” Fina said.
The freshman team scored 25-19, ending their game off with another win.
“My favorite memory is probably playing hide and seek during senior night,” freshman Zoe Morgan said. “And just being able to be with the seniors that night.”
With a 25-17 final score, the JV team secured another victory. The JV game was intense with Yukon almost winning the first set. By the second set, the Wolves had led themselves to another victory.
Throughout the season, the bond within the team stuck out to Sophomore Sasha Mulenga.
“My favorite part about volleyball is the relationships I’ve made,” Mulenga said. “I have grown so close to these girls, and I couldn’t imagine a life without them.”
Varsity ended their game with a score of 25-18, securing Santa Fe another victory. This game was especially important to those members who have been in volleyball all four years of high school, including senior Kira Griffin.
“The underclassmen are very important to me,” Griffin said. “Being on varsity and going through similar adversity as them, I feel like it is my job to make sure they are happy. I have seen many girls almost quit over one situation or just not playing well in a few games. As an upperclassman, I feel that it is important to guide them to making the right decision for themselves.”
Senior night is a night for families and friends to support the Wolves. Senior night is for senior athletes to be able to showcase their significant contributions to the team and school community. This game was a big event for the volleyball teams here at Santa Fe, and senior night reminds the seniors that the friendships and family created within the team are what truly matter.
Santa Fe’s volleyball seniors, Tilly Combs, Eden Miranda, Addy Mosier, Ava Crawford, Bella Martin, Reagan Mason, Conley Carroll, Kira Griffin and Sydney Johnson had walked with their families before their last home game.
