Last Wednesday, Santa Fe Fine Arts held their annual show choir contest, hosting over 25 middle and high schools from around the state. Each year, this contest marks the end of Oklahoma’s show choir season and showcases the best versions of every choir.

Santa Fe’s mixed show choir, Finalé, and treble choir, Serenade, both won first in their respective categories. Additionally, Finalé won “Best Choreography” and Serenade won “Most Entertaining.”
Both show choirs began rehearsing at the end of the summer, so these sets have been a long time coming.
“Show choir has really helped me become a better singer and especially dancer, but also has challenged me and push[ed] me to become my best version of myself,” sophomore Finalé member Stevie Moore said.
Finalé performed “A Musical” from “Something’s Rotten,” “Zazz” from “The Prom,” “Electricity” from “Billy Elliot The Musical,” “Putting It Together” from “Sunday in the Park with George,” “The Most Important Night” from “Tootsie” and “Something About This Night” from “Finding Neverland.”
“Show choir has shown me how to be able to work with a big group of people of all different mindset and backgrounds, which is really fun,” senior Finalé member Kyson Inman said.
Serenade performed “On My Way” from “Violet,” “Great Adventure” from “Kimberly Akimbo,” “Spirit” from “The Lion King,” “Rainbow” by Kacey Musgraves and “Long Live” by Taylor Swift.

“[Serenade has] helped me gain community and influences that are so near and dear to my heart,” freshman Serenade member Blakely Morgan said.
Not only do both show choirs have to prepare their contest songs, but they have special shows for Christmas caroling and the final spring concert.
“My favorite memory of show choir this year is going to surrounding communities—middle schools, elementary schools, senior centers—and performing our show choir caroling set,” junior Finalé member Reid DeGroot said. “It was fun to see the smile on everyone’s faces.”
Auditions for next year’s show choirs will be in May, so be on the lookout for the official dates and info.
“If you ever are thinking of joining—just join. You won’t regret it,” Inman said.
