Winter: the weather is getting colder, the urge to go out dwindles and everyone wants to stay bundled up in the house. If you are courageous and want to try and fight the cold, here are some activities you can do.
Ice skating rinks around Oklahoma
An Edmond classic is Arctic Edge. Arctic Edge is an indoor ice-skating rink that is open year-round. They are not just an ice skating rink, but they also host hockey games where UCO and OU play. You have the option of picking training ice or a public skate. To find a time slot for the public skate, check the schedule for the day you would like to go skating. Adults are $17, seniors are $15 and children (eight and under) are $15. If you would like to purchase a training walker, it is $5.
With a skating rink and other fun seasonal activities, Mitch Park is an Edmond favorite. Ice skating is available from Nov. 7 to Feb. 1. They are open from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.Fridays; on Saturday; 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., Sundays they open at 12 as well but close at 9 p.m. General admission is $14. General admission with a military ID is $11; general admission without skate rental is $10; children five and under are $10.
Switching areas and slipping into Oklahoma City, there are many places you can go to find winter fun.
The Oak, a new entertainment hall in Oklahoma City, has added many new attractions with one being ice skating. The Oak opened its ice skating rink Nov. 13th, which will be open until Jan. 18th, 2026. Monday to Thursday they are open from 4 to 9 p.m.; Fridays, 4 to 10 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sundays, 12 to 9p.m. General admission with rental skates is $15, but if you bring your own skates it’s only $12. You can buy tickets online.
Besides ice skating, there are other activities that you can enjoy in Oklahoma.
Entertainment
If you like ballet, you can attend OKC’s annual Nutcracker ballet. The ballet is anywhere from Dec. 12 to Dec 23. The ballet is held at the Civic Center Music Hall, and tickets range from $20 to $49.
This can be a fun and new experience for you, family, friends or a significant other.
You can also attend Lyric’s a Christmas Carol. It is about two hours long with one 15 minute intermission. They are open from Nov. 28th. To Dec. 28th. To purchase tickets you can go to their website Lyric Theater of Oklahoma, tickets are priced at $25. You can also find showcase times when you go to purchase tickets.
Christmas lights
You can go see Christmas lights at the OKC Zoo,Yukon Christmas in the Park or take a little drive down to Chickasha to see the Chickasha Festival of Light. You can drive or walk through the Festival of lights for free, but if you would like to participate in other activities the festival has to offer go to Chickasha Festival of Light website for additional information. To walk the lights at the zoo it is $14-$18, to drive through its $60-$78 per vehicle this also includes four walk through admission tickets; they are open nightly from 5:30 to 11:00 p.m. Admission to the Yukon Christmas lights is free, they are open Monday through Sunday from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. To find directions to any of the Christmas light locations look at the websites or take a look at apple or google maps.
