As October ends and fall is in full swing, our staff was asked to share their favorite songs, albums, movies, books, etc. Here were their responses.
Tristan: This month, I really liked Wednesday’s new album “Bleeds.” There’s so much variety between each song, and I love the lead singer’s vocals. My personal favorite songs are “Townies,” “Elderberry Wine,” and “The Way Love Goes.”
Eva: To me, Autumn is for Gilmore Girls, although it wouldn’t be October without some scary movies, so I also went to see Black Phone 2! My favorite song this month is ‘The Air that I Breathe’ by The Hollies.
Val: This month I started to rewatch Stranger Things to prepare for the last season that comes out on Nov. 26. Stranger Things has been one of my favorite shows since 2019, when season three came out. Rewatching the show has brought so many memories from the time I was super obsessed with the show and its cast, and has made me intrigued about how the story will end.
Tristain: Since it’s fall, I have been watching movies that remind me of the season while also having me on the edge of my seat. One thriller film I enjoy during this season is Fear (1996). It’s a story about a teenage girl named Nicole, she meets a guy named David who later turns out to be a psychopath.
Ava: I watched one of my favorite comfort movies this month: White Chicks.
Marley: As October brought the return of the fall season, it also brought the return of scary movies. I have been restarting the “Scream” series, and I am having a marathon of all the movies! I am on Scream 4, but my favorite is the first one. It’s predictable, but so classic and tense.
Emmie: This month I watched “Little Women” (2019) for the first time. I really enjoyed it until I found out who Laurie ended up with. Other than that, a song from Led Zeppelin has been in my repeats of this month. The song is “I Can’t Quit You Baby”, it’s not something I would usually listen to but maybe I am discovering a part of myself I never knew.
Vicki: This month I watched Beautiful Boy for the first time. I was confused in the beginning but in the end I started to better understand and really like it. It’s a movie about a boy who gets addicted to drugs, the main character, Nic, eventually gets better and graduates until he relapses again. His father ultimately decides to not help this time, and instead lets Nic navigate the situation on his own. This movie can be emotional but also educational. It walks you through the life of a person struggling with addiction and how it affects the family and them.
Caiden: This October, I’ve been getting into the alternative-indie band Slow Pulp, after seeing them live in concert in September. My favorite song by them currently is “Mud” on their latest album “Yard.” I interpret the song as somebody who is in a romantic relationship that is scared of losing their lover and not being able to get over it.
Ellery: In October, I watched the movie Imagine Me & You, a sapphic film.
