A new softball coach and history teacher is part of the wolf pack. Michael Moreno joins Santa Fe from Fletcher High School and is ready to make an impact.
“My favorite thing about Santa Fe is the team spirit,” Moreno said. “Everyone walks around with wolves on their shirts, there’s just a lot of school pride here.”
He has his bachelor’s degree from Cameron University and masters degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He went on to serve in the military and was in the war in Iraq in 2003.
He loves talking about his daughter and two grandsons. He also enjoys traveling; he has been to Germany and went cliff diving in Alaska.
As a former baseball coach, Moreno has a newfound passion for softball.
“I was coaching baseball for a long time, then I had the opportunity to jump into a softball program. I thought it would be temporary but I fell in love with it,” Moreno said. “The game is a lot faster and I think there’s more strategy involved.”
He has helped to improve the team’s season and school spirit.
“We have gotten better because everyone is more motivated at practice,” said Saydi Sellers, a senior softball player. “It’s usually hard when you get a new coach, but Moreno is super enthusiastic and the coach’s energy shows in how athletes play.”
He cares deeply about all the students he has in class and on the field. Santa Fe has gained a valuable educator.
