On Feb. 10, students across campus signed up to showcase their special skills and talents at Santa Fe’s Got Talent, an event run by student council.
The tickets for the event were sold in the morning, during passing periods and at lunch for $5. Students who have purchased tickets were released to the big gym after sixth hour.

Senior Brett Hamilton began the first act with a solo of “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns N’ Roses, performed on an electric guitar. Hamilton has played the guitar for three to four years.
“Being the first act was actually really exciting because I knew everyone in the crowd would be more engaged compared to later in the show,” Hamilton said.
After Hamilton’s performance, sophomore Jaden Lacy performed the song “ilomilo” by Billie Eilish.
Similar to the opening performer, the next individual, junior Pierce Mote, played “Ain’t No Love In Oklahoma” by Luke Combs on an electric guitar. He prepared for his performances by doing rehearsals for over a month.
“I was nervous, and it was a little stressful setting up, but I’ve performed before, so it wasn’t that bad,” he said.
The next to perform were sophomores Aastha Shah, Haasini Modugu, Akshaj Dalavayi and freshman Sanjit Dhillon.
During the first half, Shah, Modugu and Dhillon performed a Bollywood Fusion dance to the songs, “Umi Amma” by Madhubanti Bagchi, “Chikini Chameli” by the music duo Ajay and Atul Gogavale and “No pole x Saki Saki remix” by Krishmashups. Ending the performance with the song “Badtameez Dil” by Benny Dayal, Dalavayi ran towards the performers, dancing along with the beat, finishing off their act.
“Before, we were excited to show our talent, and after, we were drunk on the hype,” Dalavayi said.

Senior Ilakiya Raghavendiran and freshman Pavi Raghavendiran performed next; they sang “Lover, You Should’ve Come Over” by Jeff Buckley.
Hamilton and Mote also performed a duet playing “Master of Puppets” by Metallica on their electric guitars. The duo prepared by playing together the same way they have been for the past year.
“We have played that song together so many times, and just love it so much, so we decided to do one together in addition to our individuals,” Hamilton said.
Another duet was performed by senior Marcena Arterberry and junior Tereon Nolan. The pair sang a modified version of the song “Wondering” by Julia Lester and Olivia Rodrigo.
“Once we had the notes and lyrics down, it was all about what we wanted to change to make it our own and not just a carbon copy of Julia Lester and Olivia Rodrigo,” Nolan said.
Afterwards, sophomore Aries Qualls sang the song “From The Start” by Laufey while playing the ukulele.
Mote had a third performance playing the acoustic guitar for senior Makayla Motosaka as she sang “Something in the Orange” by Zach Bryan.
“I enjoyed getting to play three different types of songs,” Mote said.
The last performer was senior Nyles Jackson, also referred to as BinoLaurent. He was introduced via flashing lights before he ran through the side doors towards the audience, singing his own original songs.
Ending the talent show, student council prepared a karaoke with the audience; they played “Love” by Keyshia Cole and “Baby” by Justin Bieber as the crowd dispersed.
