Santa Fe theatre performed “Noises Off,” on Friday Nov 14. and Saturday Nov 15. This is a play within a play where there is an imaginary audience, an opening night, and rehearsals.
During Act one, the cast of “Nothing On” were on their last night of rehearsal before opening. With only two weeks of rehearsal, there were many struggles like line memorization, acting and overall running of the play.
Each actor had different expectations and experiences getting ready for this kind of play and performing.
“I was honestly expecting crickets,” senior Gray Visalli said. “I’m really glad that people found it funny and laughed. It’s a lot of stuff to memorize, especially when the set looks backwards and the things that you’re doing don’t correlate.”
Act two was similar, except they were performing opening night. It began after tech crew members flipped the entire set during intermission. This act was an actual performance; however, you only heard the lines being said as you were watching chaos ensue backstage.
Every person in the cast had done plays at Santa Fe before, but this show specifically was a learning experience for everyone.
“It taught me how to work in an ensemble with people and how to feel a community around people,” sophomore Victor Foreman said. “It taught me how to make a character of my own.”
Though there was a lot happening on stage, there was work being put in the back stage as well, making sure things went correctly for the cast members, sharing what the back stage crew experiences.
“Getting actors in and out of costumes and troubleshooting, ” junior Kamille Reeves said. “[If] stuff’s going wrong backstage, I’m running around trying to help.”
For act three, the set is flipped back. Once again, everything goes wrong as the cast of “Nothing’s On” performs their show for the last time. This time everything purposely goes wrong. Props were breaking, people were forgetting lines and cast members were playing the wrong parts.
