Santa Fe and Memorial play against each other to kickoff the homecoming season.
In recent years, Santa Fe’s football program has consistently set records above the national average for football stats. Offense is one of the main stats that sits above national average. Similarly, Edmond Memorial high school has also set record above-average stats, also having a powerful offense.
Parker Peede of Memorial opened the game with a kickoff sending Santa Fe’s team to the 35-yard line, but still Santa Fe pulled through, cutting through the defensive line and hitting a first down within the first 60 seconds. The first play was up and down the field with both defense and offense giving effort.
The 2nd quarter started off at the 9-yard line; the Bulldogs were the first to get the ball, with the Wolves coming through with a clutch interception, making it to the 5-yard line. The field position was lethal as Nick Booker from Memorial punched a powerful drive straight through the line of defense, with the first touchdown of the game.
“I think we didn’t play to our potential,” Junior Jaelyn Buford said. “I feel like I did good coming into the game, shaking off all the pressure that was on me and just playing the sport that I love.”
As halftime began, the stadium was filled with railroad themed props; band members were dressed in conductor uniforms and marched with precision. Color Guard members streamed across the field, wearing flowy blue costumes.
The third quarter started off with immediate defensive action, as Memorial made the first tackle, making it 8 yards down. As the game shifted, a lot of empty space on the left side of the field, Booker from Memorial blazed down to the other side of the field. Santa Fe’s Kennedy brought the heat back, making it down from the 30 to 50-yard line, facing a critical 4th down.
Memorial punted the ball all the way to the 20-yard line, making it into Memorial territory. The flag on Jaelin Battle for unsportsmanship conduct gave hope for Santa Fe to come up with a plan. By third down, a timeout was called by Memorial. Santa Fe made their way down to the 20-yard line, with a flag being thrown due to an illegal shift. The overall score was 0-28, with Memorial taking the win.
“I still thought the game was entertaining even though we still lost,” senior Jake Schmidt said “I look forward to other Edlam games.”
It was a must-see game of the season. Students showed up and showed out, bringing their school spirit in their best camo attire to support our team.
