After last year’s unexpected win from the class of 2027, this year’s seniors took the trophy and regained their dominance at the annual Homecoming Powderpuff game.
Powderpuff consists of girls playing flag football with football players from their grade coaching them. In order to prepare they had to schedule team practices outside of school in order to get better. Powderpuff also consists of male students who signed up to be cheerleaders; they wore outfits from Santa Fe’s cheer team. They participated in stunts and chants to engage the stands.
The evening of the semi-finals, Tuesday Sept. 30, the juniors took the win with one touchdown, ending the first game with a score of 6-0. On Wednesday, Oct. 1, the juniors played in the finals during the school day.
After moving on to the qualifying game, junior La’Riah Bennett expressed how she felt.
“It was fun, it was challenging, it was aggressive, but it was cool,” Bennett said.
Following the juniors’ victory, the seniors won against the freshman. Freshmen began the game by making the first touchdown and didn’t score for the rest of the game, resulting in a 28-8 win for the seniors. The night came to a close with the seniors celebrating their win and chanting “I believe that we have won.”
During the finals, the sophomores and the freshmen went against each other, resulting in freshmen losing 0-14. This placed the sophomores in third place and the freshmen in fourth place.
To end Powderpuff once and for all, the seniors and juniors went up next. The game ended 6-0 with the seniors taking their title back and being crowned the Powderpuff champions.
