On April 11th, the Santa Fe band leadership team traveled to the Oklahoma State Capitol to be recognized for their outstanding achievements at the Bands of America (BOA) marching competition. In Oct. 2024 the band competed in Flagstaff, Arizona where they won every major award.
“I feel like the visit was super important because Santa Fe was the first Central Oklahoma band to get recognized at the capitol,” sophomore color guard member Dyllun Haley said.
The leadership team was invited to the Capitol where they met with members of the Edmond House of Representatives and the Oklahoma senators who formally recognized them for their accomplishments such as their three year win streak at Mustang, a clean sweep at BOA and previously winning the Deer Creek Marching competition.
“We went to the capital and got recognized because of what we did in Arizona at BOA,” sophomore flute section leader Taya Nichols said, “getting out of school was also nice.”
The band’s leadership team played a crucial role in its success. These students help plan events, maintain the band hall and ensure all instruments are stored properly. They were recognized at the capitol and were highly regarded.
“It was really neat to be a drum major especially with it being my senior year. I really liked helping the band get better, and I hope that they continue to get better,” senior Kayla Barnes said.
Santa Fe is proud of the band’s accomplishments and looks forward to future victories.
