The 2026 bond election will be held on Feb 10. Currently there is $140,000,000 being proposed to further expand Edmond schools, which will be divided into two propositions.
Proposition one, which is proposing $136,350,000, is mainly about the construction of some of the many school sites This includes the soon-to-be construction of Post Oak Elementary, Horizon Middle School and Santa Fe’s new freshman academy. Furthermore, proposition one focuses on improving school sites, better safety for schools, school furniture and equipment.
Proposition two is very brief as it is only proposing a smaller amount than proposition one, $3,650,000. They are considering this money for school transport. This includes, school buses, activity buses and sport utility vehicles.
Debreon Davis is the Executive Director of Secondary Education for Edmond Public Schools. In a video with EPS, she talks about Santa Fe soon having a freshman academy similar to other Edmond high schools.
“What we’re really excited about is that, for the first time, all three high schools will have very similar structures to their freshman academy–a bigger cafeteria space, larger classrooms, and larger hallways, to meet the needs and the growth that we see happening here on the west side of Edmonds, specifically here at Santa Fe High School,” Davis said.
When they first built the present freshman academy, it was big enough for the population years before. As Santa Fe’s population grew, they realized the current academy wouldn’t fulfill their needs.
“Over the last few years, we’ve seen a lot of growth within our community in Edmond, and specifically here at Santa Fe High School, we know that we have a need to build another bigger freshman academy,” Davis said.
As of right now, Santa Fe is under construction for the new freshman academy. Santa Fe will have an abundance of classrooms where teachers will be able to have more of an environment to continue the growth of their students.
If the bond is approved, there will be no planned tax increase expected. People who are registered voters and who live inside EPS bounds are able to vote. School bonds take 60% of approval to fully pass. Polls will be open Feb. 10 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
