Santa Fe boys basketball finishes sensational season

Ethan Barnes, Santa Fe Staff Writer

The Edmond Santa Fe Boys Basketball had an extraordinary season to remember. They ended the season with a record of 15-8, after losing to Del City in the first round of the state tournament. Despite the disappointing end, it is still a season to be proud of for the wolves. Led by senior Colby Onyekuru and the Shettron brothers, Tabry and Talyn, the Wolves went on a miraculous run to make the state tournament.

It all started with a win against Lawton in the regional tournament. That win was followed by a win in the regional final against Choctaw, with a score of 60-56. Riding the highs of winning the Regional Championship, the Wolves then faced off against the #1 team in the state, Edmond Memorial. If they had won, they would have qualified for state; however, despite the efforts of Tabry Shettron, who led the wolves in points with 10, they were unable to pull off the upset, losing 59-42.

With this loss, they then had to take on Mustang, with a final chance of making the state tournament. Leading the Wolves against the Broncos, Onyekuru led all scorers with 24 points, along with leading the team with 19 rebounds. The Wolves won the game with a score of 73-52, officially punching their ticket into the state tournament. In the state tournament, the Wolves faced eventual state champions, Del City, losing 34-52. All of Santa Fe can be proud of this team and the season these fantastic student-athletes had.
