I wish it was summer

Summer is a feeling that may never go away. Even in the midst of the cold, you crave for that warm breeze and salty air.

In most parts of the world, summer means longer, warmer and brighter days. It means traveling, long walks on the beach and ice cream to cool down. Waking up with the sun glistening through the trees onto your face, and a big smile knowing there’s a long day of fun ahead.

This time of year it is always cold and uncomfortable, if not painful, to be outside. It makes one yearn for a nice sunny day to sit outside. Ice skating is fun in the winter time, but let’s be honest, it is not as enjoyable as swimming. Playing in the snow is also fun, but in Oklahoma, snow can be hard to come by. Plus snow can only be enjoyed for so long before that pain mentioned before starts to occur. Sunny days in the winter time can be a bit misleading, and ultimately, it’s just another sad reminder that it’s not close to being summer.

Another reason why winter is frowned upon is because it is smack dab in the middle of the school year. Winter break is nice, but it doesn’t even come close to summer break. Heck, even spring break is better. During spring break, you get to have your share of sunshine, you can go to the beach if you want to and the flowers bloom. So just when you are away from school, long enough to feel good about yourself, winter break ends and students go back to school. The threat of having to scrape ice off your windshield is always nearby. Whether it is in the morning or right after the final bell rings and the thought of driving straight home but struck with having to scrape the ice off.  But summer is coming! Every day we endure at school is one day closer to summer.

Greet that bitter winter morning with a smile. Summer will be here before you know it.
