Senior Jacob Smith began playing football at age of six. Although he wasn’t initially interested in the sport, it quickly became a passion. In the fall of 2025, Smith will attend the University of Chicago, where he plans to continue his football career while pursuing academic goals.
“Some of the things that attracted me to UChicago were the prestige of the school, business school and the hospitality I got from the coaches and the city size,” Smith said.
Early on in his high school career, Smith started looking into options for college. He attended multiple football camps and communicated with football coaches from various schools. UChicago not only offered him admission but also a spot as a defensive tackle for the Maroons.
“Playing football has changed my life in multiple ways,” Smith said. “It has developed me as not only an athlete, but as a person.”
Smith plans to study business in college, although he hasn’t decided on a specific area. Smith has one piece of advice to offer to those also planning for their futures.
“I want everyone to know that the first step is the most important step to take,” Smith said.
