Bergin Kysar has spent much of his life playing football, and he has no plans of slowing down anytime soon with a commitment to the University of Oklahoma as a 3-star edge rusher sporting jersey number 80.
Kysar started playing football when he was five with flag football at the YMCA. He played flag football for the YMCA until 7th grade, when he played tackle football for the first time. Despite some initial fears, he adapted well to tackle football, embracing the physicality of the sport.
“I didn’t know if I’d be ready for it, but I learned I liked hitting people,” Kysar said.
For most of Kysar’s football career, he played quarterback because of his natural leadership abilities. He is always trying to keep his team focused and in shape.
“On and off the field, picking people up, making sure they’re doing the right thing because I’m a big believer in the little things,” Kysar said.
Kysar played quarterback until 11th grade, when he was moved to edge rusher. He transitioned well to a pass-rusher mindset, drawing upon his prior quarterback experience to predict what the opposing quarterback is going to do.
“The thinking comes back into my mind, what are they gonna do in this situation,” Kysar said.
The first game of the 2024 OU season will be Aug. 31 against Temple Owls. Head to Norman and support the OU football team, and you may even get to cheer on Bergin Kysar.
