On Friday, April 4 the Minecraft Movie came out, sparking interest by many including myself. A movie that I thought would have been bad turned out to be better than expected.
The movie started as expected, where you had the typical character introduction. With the cast being Jack Black as Steve, Jason Momoa as Garbage Man, Danielle Brooks as Dawn, Sebastian Eugene Hansen as Henry, Emma Meyers as Natalie and Jennifer Coolidge as the Vice Principal of Chuglass High School. Each character had a meaningful part from being the comedic relief to being the hero.
The movie even had a reference to Technoblade, a popular Youtuber known for his Minecraft gameplay videos and livestreams, who sadly passed away from cancer in June 2022.
The movie played the original Minecraft music, which brought back nostalgic memories of playing the game early in the morning before school.
The story began with the main character Steve facing challenges when following his dream of mining materials. Throughout the movie, you could see character development in Garbage Man as he becomes more selfless as the movie progresses. Dawn and Natalie became closer as friends and found more things in common later on. As the movie came to an end, Henry and Steve end up saving both the Minecraft and the real world.
The Minecraft Movie was a movie I’d not only recommend, but watch again. Seeing a game I grew up playing turn into a movie was a mind boggling and amazing experience.
