Many students today prefer not to read books for various different reasons, but the Book Club at Santa Fe is here to change that.
The main goal of Book Club is to provide a space for students who like reading to socialize and talk about books.
There are no strict requirements to sign up; students can either email the librarians, Heather Bowlan and Hailey Wansick or talk to the president of the club, senior Auna Thomas.
“We meet at the library during both lunches about once a month after we finish reading a book,” Bowlan said.
The Book Club’s monthly gathering is to discuss a preselected book, sharing their perspectives on the characters, plot and themes. To conclude the meeting, they choose their next shared reading.
“We just finished the book called ‘Book Thief’ and are about to have a movie night with that. The next is a book called ‘A Door in the Dark’,” Wansick said.
The book club offers students a dedicated space for exploring literature and enhancing their critical thinking skills.
“It helps me to engage with a book more by having people read it alongside me, as well as be able to discuss viewpoints that I may not have noticed,” senior and Book Club vice president Ava Blakley said.
