Each year, community members band together for a good cause and a freezing cold plunge in winter water. The Polar Plunge is an annual event raises money for Special Olympics of Oklahoma
This year Andrew Miller, the school’s Resource Officer from the Edmond Police Department, is leading the charge for the funds for the Santa Fe’s Special Education program. His goal is $2,500 dollars, so far he’s raised $220 which is almost 10% of his goal and needs the community’s help to reach his full goal.
Officer Miller is representing the”Cool School” team for the plunge. This means that 10% of what is raised will go back to the Wolves participating in Special Olympics. The Special Olympics is the largest sports organization for people with intellectual disabilities in the world. It provides Unified Sports partners in 172 countries.
“The police department put a team together the last couple of years, and my police car is actually wrapped in a fundraising organization wrap and that’s how I got roped into it,” Officer Miller said.
If you want to participate in the plunge go to Special Olympic Oklahoma’s Polar Plunge page and sign up yourself of a team.
The plunge is taking place on February 10 at Hurricane Harbor. The event starts at 9 o’clock am. The water for the plunge, warm towels and a tent for changing will be provided. You just need to bring you and/or your team.
“Teams will plunge at 10 o’clock, some people choose to dress up in a synched costume or you can wear whatever you want,” Officer Miller said. “You jump in the water and then you can join everyone else. They have a lot of music and Rumble (Thunder Mascot) was there last year.”
