Today, Aug. 24, at approx. 8:50 A.M. the fire alarm went off in the school and students started to make their way to the designated area for their class.
“I didn’t know if it was a drill I was really confused,” Senior Hiba Saeed, said.
At first everyone assumed that it was a drill but when teachers were asked about it they seemed to be just as confused as the students.
“I knew we had one next week so I didn’t know if this one was real or not,” said Morgan Mason, AP U.S. History and AP Human Geography teacher.
Eventually students went back to class and Principal Mr. Hayes eased everyone’s concerns whenever he went on the intercom explaining what actually happened.
Due to the construction around the school the water pressure, amongst other things, is affected constantly. This effect can cause the fire alarm to go off because the water pressure resembles fire sprinkles making the system respond with the alarm even though there was no real fire.
Because the students of Santa Fe were able to evacuate in an efficient timely manner the scheduled fire drill we were supposed to have next week has now been replaced by the accidental one that took place today.
