After several setbacks, this year’s prom committee has finalized a location for this year’s prom: the Roughneck Pavilion at the OKC Zoo.
Originally, Prom was scheduled to be at the UCO Ballroom, but on April 4, administration discovered that the venue would be under construction until the summer, despite having made the reservation in June of last year. With seemingly no venue that would host such a large event on such short notice, the location was changed to Santa Fe’s main gym.
“I think it was poor planning from both the school and UCO,” senior Jada Daniel said. “The school should’ve reached out again, and UCO should’ve told them. [The gym] is not the same vibes; I wanted to get out of the school, because we were at the school everyday. Honestly, I wasn’t going to go this year because of [it].”
Last year, prom was rescheduled due to inclement weather; the rescheduled date required it to be held in the gym.
“I was pretty upset to hear it was gonna be at the school,” senior CeCe Long said. “I’ve been to proms that were held at super cool venues before and it really added to the experience.”
However, after searching for an available venue, the prom committee chose the Roughneck Pavillion.
“After reading the email that it would be held at the zoo, I am pretty excited,” Long said. “I think the vibes will be super sick, and it will be a memorable night!”
The new venue comes with new perks not available elsewhere: a carousel, fire pits, cotton candy and more.
“I like it because of the carousel,” junior Shaanav Sahgal said. “The photos are going to be bomb.”
Tickets for Prom remain $35, but the time has been changed to 7:30 p.m. through 10:30 p.m.. Tickets can be purchased online through InTouch or at the financial office. Guest forms can be found in the Welcome Center and Attendance Office; forms are due April 24.
