Schools from across Oklahoma and one from Arkansas gathered at the Edmond Public Schools Aquatic Center on Dec. 7 to participate in the Edmond Invitational swim meet where several Santa Fe swimmers broke multiple records.
With prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 4 p.m., swimmers from the schools of Santa High School, North High School, Memorial High School, Carl Albert High School, Deer Creek High School, Ft. Gibson High School, Harrah High School, OKC Storm, Shawnee High School, Yukon High School and Bentonville High School prepared to compete in their designated races.
“The meet felt normal to me,” senior Caleb Weber said. “I try to focus on myself rather than the other schools.”
In 2016, a record of 1:43.83 was set in the boys 200 medley relay. Santa Fe’s boys team–featuring Caleb Weber, Joseph Shaffer, Wyatt Rounsaville and Luke Zhang– set a new record of 1:42.38. Dyanelis Hernandez Silva broke the 100 breaststroke record with a time of 1:08.75.
“I’ve been working really hard on all my events and our coaches Reed and Grimmet have been very supportive allowing me to swim my events,” sophomore Dyanelis Hernandez Silva said. “The best part was the support of my amazing teammates. I was also very happy that the boys relay broke a record.”
The boys finished in fourth place, the girls finished ninth and the team placed fifth overall.
