In preparation for the first Edlem game of the season on Sept. 6, Santa Fe’s student council (STUCO) hosted an assembly aimed to encourage students to attend the game.
Senior Tyler Gutierrez opened the assembly by singing the national anthem. Next, various coaches and teachers were called to the center of the gym and asked to share their score predictions for the game against Edmond North.
“I thought the first assembly was great,” football coach Kyle White said.” STUCO did a great job organizing and running it. Cheer, pom, and band all did a great job of getting everyone involved.”
To engage the crowd, STUCO members selected two students from each grade to participate in a classic Santa fe challenge: table surfing. In this game, two students stand on separate tables while four students lie underneath. The students under the table must roll to keep the table moving. Seniors and sophomores came out on top in the challenge.
The assembly also included a performance from the pom team.
“I love being on pom with all my friends and getting to bring energy to assemblies,” sophomore pom member Briella Goldman said. “It’s always a good time when we get to show our Santa Fe spirit.”
To close out the assembly, “Swag Surfin’” by Fast Life Yungstaz played as students wrapped their arms around each other’s shoulders and swayed back and forth. As students exited the gym, the band performed Santa Fe’s fight song.
