The Santa Fe freshman academy and Student Council (STUCO) hosted a “Welcome to the Wolf Den” night on Aug. 13 to welcome and help prepare freshmen for their first year of high school.
To begin, students were escorted to the large gym, where (STUCO) members stood by the doors welcoming them. A “day in the life of a freshman” performance ensued, giving the new Wolves a fresh perspective. Commonly asked questions were answered, such as, “Can I leave campus for lunch?” and “What is homecoming?”
The concept of Double Wolf Dare Week (DWDW) was introduced by Student Council members Ryan Robinson and Suri Fernandes. During the designated week, the students of Santa Fe come together and perform various dares in order to raise money for non-profit organizations.
To give the new students an idea of what will happen during DWDW, two underclassmen were selected from the crowd and dared to drink a smoothie composed of mystery ingredients.
“The smoothie did not taste edible,” freshman Nazifa Abdullah said. Abdullah followed up with a joke, “There’s no way they weren’t trying to poison me.”
Following their orientation, new students had the opportunity to walk around the back hall of Santa Fe High School and explore various clubs and organizations, including but not limited to:
- Chinese Club
- Yearbook
- National Honors Society (NHS)
- Robotics Club
- German Club
- Spanish Club
- French Club
- Key Club
- DECA
- Black Student Union (BSU)
- Gay Straight Alliance (GSA)
- HOSA
- Book Club
- Unified Partners Club
Parents of students in organizations like cheer and band had tables set up where shirts and hoodies from previous years could be purchased.
During the night, faculty and staff hoped that the Class of 2028 learned their way around the school and the importance of protecting the PACK.
“I’m most looking forward to marching band and getting involved in clubs,” freshman Margaret Chaszer said. “I think the most challenging part of high school will be making new friends and getting to class on time.”
