Whether it’s sports, construction, band or color guard, both students and staff of Santa Fe have been busy. With the start of the school year around the corner, construction is expected to be finished just in time, and students are gearing up for the beginning of the year.
(Cayden) Since the start of the summer, Santa Fe has undergone several changes. Six new classrooms have been added, a bathroom and science classrooms are in the process of being remodeled, new HVAC systems are being installed and smart TVs will be added to classrooms across the building.
With funding provided by the district bond issues supported by the Edmond Community, Santa is able to offer new learning opportunities and support the growth of the school.
(Ava) The Dowell-Pontikos Construction staff are working hard to complete the improvements before the school year begins. By installing new technology and instructional materials, they are providing significant support to the students of Santa Fe.
“The skylights are definitely the most difficult to do,” said construction worker Fiendish Harris.
Due to leaks and energy costs, the skylights that were part of the school’s original design will all have to be replaced.
(Tristan) Band camp is one of the busiest times of the year for Santa Fe’s band students. During this period, members of Santa Fe’s marching band and ensemble come together and practice for the upcoming season. Through rehearsals and forming marching formations band members are able to refine their musical skills and learn new pieces.
“We got here at 7 a.m. then marched on the field for 3 hours,” said freshman and color guard member Karma North.
(Drew) As the upcoming sports season approaches, Santa Fe’s summer sports teams have been attending workouts, practices and participating in team building exercises.
Santa Fe’s Football team plays games on the tennis courts to build stronger bonds for the upcoming season. The football team’s first game will take place on Aug. 30 at Jenks.
Despite their sports not being in season, the baseball and soccer teams have been working out and weightlifting this summer with coaches Peeler, Hurst and Galvin alongside the in-season sports.
(Eden) Santa Fe’s volleyball teams work with coaches and trainers daily to build muscle for their upcoming season. The week of Jul. 22 marks the start of morning practices with their head coach Drew McCarty. The varsity Lady Wolves volleyball team will play their first official game on Aug. 8 at Piedmont High School.
