One of the largest organizations at Santa Fe, our local chapter of the National Honor Society consists of hundreds of high-achieving scholars who strive to influence and impress.
Year round, the National Honor Society (NHS), hosts an induction ceremony for incoming members- in 2024, the Santa Fe auditorium held this event on the night of Thursday, Mar. 28 at 6pm.
Present that evening was close to three-hundred sophomores and juniors, all personally invited to join the ranks of NHS by club sponsors Haylee Frazier and Stephanie Lewis.
With two new sponsors this school year, a large majority of Santa Fe was present to help facilitate the induction. From our school’s library staff and current student officers to past NHS sponsor Torie York and principal Jason Hayes himself, the wolfpack joined together as a team to celebrate the Fe’s collective achievements.
With Santa Fe’s overall class sizes continuing to grow exponentially, there were more inductees that night than ever before, with the numbers expected to abide by this trend as the years pass by.
In the case of official NHS secretary and senior Jaley Hunt, hours upon hours of official preparation was conducted behind the scenes to ensure a smooth experience for all attendees. Inspecting student applications, printing official certificates and setting the stage to perfection- she did it all.
“With all these new members, NHS will prepare for next year by electing new officers and training them in all of the things that need to be done to make the events in the school year and the induction possible,” Hunt said.
In order to officially join NHS at Santa Fe, students must maintain an overall unweighted grade-point average (GPA) of at least a 3.5 and pay their monetary dues upon induction. To prolong their membership, members are required to submit forty volunteer hours per school year- sixty hours for wolves inducted as a junior- preserve a clean school record and be an active member of at least two other clubs inside or outside of school.
Promoted by teacher sponsors and student officers alike, the ceremony gave students the opportunity to walk across the main stage to receive much-deserved praise and an official certificate from our head principal. Immediately following the event was a reception in the auditorium foyer with cookies and water.
This May, one-hundred and twenty-seven seniors will graduate with distinction as members of NHS.
