All dancers will say that Minnesota University’s Dance Team’s jazz routine is their ‘Roman Empire’.
Over the weekend of Jan. 12-14, college-level dance teams from all across the country attended Universal Dance Association’s (UDA) College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship.
Now, you might be wondering what a ‘Roman Empire’ even is. Well, a ‘Roman Empire’ is a topic that you are almost obsessed with, know everything about and talk about excessively. The term ‘Roman Empire’ was coined on the popular app, TikTok.
Minnesota’s jazz routine was performed to Aerosmith’s “Dream On”, which is understandably iconic because they won at the same event using that song twenty years ago.
During their performance, something that made them stand out was their nearly impossible turn sections. The most difficult part about the turn section is the turns to an aerial straight back into turns. I have been dancing for almost 12 years and multiple people at my studio have tried to do this turn section and only a couple of them have succeeded.
Minnesota’s routine was a perfect blend of precision, creativity and passion. The dancers moved in complete harmony, showcasing their exceptional skills and the countless hours of practice they put into their work.
Overall, the team’s choreography was simply mesmerizing, with intricate formations and seamless transitions. The judges were blown away by their performance, and it’s no surprise that they received high praise and recognition.
Minnesota truly represented their school with pride and showcased the amazing talent they have.
