Santa Fe’s wind ensemble will travel to the Tulsa Performing Arts Center on Jan. 19 to perform in this year’s Oklahoma Music Educators Association Honor Group performance.
Last year, Santa Fe’s Wind ensemble submitted a recording to the OkMEA to be selected for a spot in this year’s Honor Performance. Santa Fe will be performing at 7 p.m. and nine other schools will be performing throughout the day.
“I’m excited for this year because we’re also going to BOA (Band’s of America),” Junior Cody Stong said. “Band provides its members with a bunch of opportunities for college and I’m glad I got to be a part of the group.”
Some of Santa Fe band’s other accomplishments from the past year include: placing first at the Mustang invitational for the third year in a row, placing third at the Owasso invitational for the first time ever — and being the best individual musicians on the field the whole day — among other honors. Individually, 15 students made the Central Oklahoma Director’s Associations’ Wind Ensemble, 20 students made the symphonic band, 21 students made all-state ensembles and 26 students made 9th grade band.
