Jarred Bush received an unexpected phone call from his former principal asking if he spoke Spanish or had a bachelor’s degree. At the time, he was the manager at Trader Joe’s.
Over the unexpected call, his former principal offered him a job at his former high school in Cushing. Bush had the proper qualifications so his principal offered him a job as a Spanish teacher. He was emergency certified just two weeks before school started.
“Teaching kind of found me and I’ve been so grateful for that because I wasn’t really content at Trader Joe’s” Bush said.
Bush taught in Cushing for four years before moving to Edmond, and he loves the switch to a big city because of the variety of things to do in Edmond and Oklahoma City.
“There’s just a lot more to do. So I mean, there are hiking places, even accessible here and Oklahoma City. If I want to go to a yoga class, I can go to yoga class,” Bush said.
Bush loves teaching at Santa Fe because of the wonderful students and the diversity Santa Fe has. Meeting new students is one the most important parts of teaching to Bush.
“Coming from a small town I knew everyone, so here I don’t know anyone and I get to kind of make those connections,” Bush said.
Santa Fe is grateful to have Señor Bush as a new Spanish teacher; he will be a great addition to Santa Fe’s language department.
