Edmond Santa Fe opened in Aug. 1993. Currently, the student body is around 2,450 with 47 staff members. A part of that staff is KC Williams. He is a teacher that has been a part of Santa Fe since it opened and plans to continue his journey here.
However, before his start at Santa Fe, Williams worked at one of the middle schools that would soon lead into Santa Fe.
“I got my first job at Summit Middle School, teaching then coaching over here,” Williams said.
Despite Williams coaching in the past, he stopped and moved to primarily teaching.
“The coaching here was really fun,” Williams said. “I just got burnt out, and I wanted to be with my family.”
Since the beginning of Santa Fe, Williams has always been involved in what the school has become today.
“I started coaching here in ‘93, ‘94 when it opened up, and then I moved over here in ‘99 to teach and coach,” Williams said.
Williams got to see firsthand the changes of Santa Fe; he believes the school has grown in more ways than one.
“I think it’s a kind of a twofold situation,” Williams said. “I think that we have become more culturally diverse over the years, and I think we have become really a much larger school.”
Along with Santa Fe’s overall changes, Williams and other staff had to overcome individual difficulties.
“It doesn’t mean that we haven’t gone through some hardships because we have, but that makes us better,” Williams said.
There’s one thing that Williams had continued to see throughout his years: the community of Santa Fe.
“The one thing I noticed is we are one huge family,” Williams said. “I’ve seen teachers come, I’ve seen teachers go, but at the end of the day, it’s always about family.”
Williams plans on staying at Santa Fe for the rest of his career.
“I would never want to leave here,” Williams said. “In fact, I want to retire here. This school has been a blessing to me and my family.”
Santa Fe is grateful to have Williams on the staff.
