During day four of Double Wolf Dare Week (DWDW), student council (STUCO) held their annual Boy Bands assembly.
Boybands consists of a group of boys from each grade performing for DWDW to help raise money for K-club. They spend weeks preparing, with pom team members coaching them on a choreographed dance. These performances include a series of different routines and props designed to keep the audience engaged.
The assembly started with STUCO playing a recap video from the versus assembly. STUCO senior representative Emily Vu then made her way to the judges to predict the outcome of the boybands, with two special guests being Holden and Reid Barrón, K Club founder Keaton’s brothers. There were three judges, Adam Collett, Courtney Galvin and Tanner Huddleston. The majority of the predictions were in the seniors’ favor.
“I would like to say that the freshmen are going to win, but they still have a lot to learn, so I think the seniors are going to win,” Collett said.
The freshmen were the first group to perform, followed by the sophomores, juniors, and lastly seniors. They kicked off their performance by running around the court to “Lip Gloss” by Lil Mama. Dressed in custom matching Santa Fe jerseys with their names on the back, they brought energy to the crowd. To end their segment they danced to their final song “FE!N” by Travis Scott.
Before transitioning to the next group, STUCO merch manager Hannah Dinh made her way to the judges to get their opinions on the performance.
“As Mr. Collett said, it is a rebuilding year,” Galvin said. “Not bad to start off, I would also give it a solid six out of ten. I’m looking forward to seeing what they do next year.”
After the scoring, STUCO moved on to the sophomore’s performance.
The sophomores made their way onto the court one by one in matching outfits. The outfits consisted of a black tank top and black sweatpants. The entry song was a snip-it from “Don Who Leo” by Monaleo. The sophomores had numerous events detailed in their performance like “Lebron James” dunking and Samuel Sargeant riding a horse made out of his group. To end their part of the assembly, they exited the stage to “Rollin’” by BabyCheifDoit.
STUCO president Sharrin Jones then got students from the crowd for each grade for a class competition. She got six students and played musical chairs. The senior class took the win. After musical chairs, Jones went to get the judge’s rating for the sophomore.
“That’s a difference a year makes, so I’d like to retroactively drop the grade of the freshman down a few points,” Huddleston said. “I’ll go a solid nine as well.”
At the beginning of the junions’ performance, they held flags with “junior” written in red. Their entrance song was a remix they made. The group had matching outfits just like the previous groups: this time a white tank top with their last names and graduation year, with red sweatpants to complete their outfit. They had numerous props such as tutus, pompoms and more.
The juniors received scores of 9.7, nine and a 9.5 from the judges.
Finally, the most anticipated group of the event, seniors began their performance. Before the seniors started their routine, STUCO played the “Stu-girls” wake-up video. After the video, the seniors played their entrance video, they started the video off by introducing the boys of the group. They then made their entrance by coming in with a firetruck costume. Their performance consisted of numerous outfit changes, changing of lights and cheer stunts.
The judges concluded that the seniors had won. Spirit chair Ian Jenkins led the way to the senior section and started a chant, ending the event.
