The Edmond mayoral election runoff was held on Tuesday, February 11. Two out of the four candidates were chosen to advance to the city council general election on April 1.
The finalists are Mark Nash and Tom Robins. Nash led with 2,447 votes (34.89%) while Robins had 2,402 votes (34.25%).
The main issues discussed were financial responsibility and development, specifically the 231 million dollar bond proposal rejected by voters because the taxes would have increased by 14.4%.
Mark Nash, a former finance professor, focuses on examining the city’s budgeting process.
“We have people who say we have a spending problem, we have people who say we have a revenue problem but the reality is we have a fiscal transparency problem,” Nash said.
Previously a Ward one council member, Tom Robins emphasizes public safety and traffic concerns.
“I’m ready to fix our roads, support our first responders, and bring transparency to City Hall,” said Robins in a campaign video available on Facebook.
As we near the April 1 election, Edmond voters have to choose between two distinct priorities and visions for the city. Residents are encouraged to stay informed to help determine the city’s next mayor.
