Following the snowy weather last week, Student Council (STUCO) started a fun and cold trend on their Instagram and the Double Wolf Dare Week (DWDW) Instagram called “Cold for a Cause,” in which they challenged students to record themselves jumping in the snow with anything but warm clothes, shout “I love Double Wolf Dare Week,” donate to DWDW using the link on their Instagrams bio and tag a friend and DWDW’s Instagram to continue the chain.
Over 150 students joined the cause by donating and following the chain. The lengthening chain on DWDW’s instagram stories began with the senior Ryan Robinson tagging senior Sharrin Jones who then tagged senior Lexi Parker and so on.
“The meaning behind ‘Cold for a Cause’ was to get people excited about DWDW,” Parker, who is also a STUCO senator, said. “It makes me feel seen that so many people rallied behind the cause with me.”
“Cold for a Cause” had been done in past years; the last time being 2022. This year, Parker had the idea to bring the challenge back due to the weather circumstances and to fundraise for upcoming DWDW, which will be Feb. 24-28.
This year’s DWDW Philanthropy Chair, Suri Fernandes, was in charge of running the account and reposting the hundreds of stories posted this past weekend.
“It shows the sense of community even if we aren’t together,” Fernandes said.”We had over 150 people participating.”
Even from her vacation at a beach in Cancun, sophomore Peyton Park joined the cause by jumping in the sand.
“I wanted to participate in it but I knew that once I got home then the snow would be melted,” Park said.
Students made the most of the snowy weather, harmonizing and raising money for K Club.
“It really showed unity within our school for even small random things and how much people cared for our cause,” senior and STUCO member Ian Jenkins said.
“Cold for a Cause” manifested students’ excitement and faithfulness for the DWDW cause.
