As the holiday season draws closer, students are excited for their upcoming vacations. This time of year offers a much-needed rest from the demands of academic life.
At Santa Fe, many students and teachers have a variety of plans for their holiday break. Some students are gearing up to go back to their families in other cities or states, while others might plan to go do fun activities such as hitting the slopes of a ski resort. Travel agencies project a 2% increase in travel for the 2024 holidays.
“This year’s projection of nearly 80 million travelers is an increase of 1.7 million people compared to last year and 2 million more than in 2019,” the American Automobile Association said.
Some students have chosen to leave Oklahoma and visit family in other states.
“I get to go to California this year so I can see my mom’s side of the family,” sophomore Thu Tran said.
Although most of the student body have many plans to travel, some students stay in Edmond for the holidays.
“I am just staying home this year for Christmas Break, but usually I go to St. Louis and spend time with my 12 cousins and eat a lot of good food that my Grandma makes,” sophomore Zildjian Leyba said.
Teachers and faculty also have plans for the holidays. Some are traveling to see family and friends and others are staying within the confines of their own homes.
“This year I am going to Seattle to see my partner who has just recently moved there,” English teacher Joseph Quinton said.
Overall, the holidays are a much needed break for everyone who attends Santa Fe.
