Santa Fe’s varsity boys and girls basketball teams kicked off the 2024-2025 season with a doubleheader win against the Lawton Ike Eagles on Dec. 3rd. The girls won 65-42, and the boys won 102-44.
To show their support for the team’s first game, the students repped their favorite jerseys.
“I enjoy the themes for Santa Fe’s basketball games because they are always convenient and fun,” Student council member Gabe White said. “I love putting an outfit together and matching with the student section.”
Though girls’ varsity basketball coach Kyle Axton is never sure if the Lady Wolves are going to win a game, it’s nice to see them win.
“As a coach and even as a team, you think you know what we’re going to look like but you aren’t really sure,” said Axton. “So to come out and play well and get that first W, is a nice feeling.”
Boys’ varsity basketball coach Troy Lallemand attributed their first win to the strong unity and teamwork displayed on the court, emphasizing how well they understood each other’s playing styles and seamlessly worked together to achieve their goals.
“Our chemistry really showed; we were moving the ball and got great looks at the rim, and it showed,” Lallemand said.
In the 2023-24 season, the boys ranked No. 35 in the state while the girls ranked No. 79 with a combined total of 28 wins.
After securing their first wins of the season, both teams are looking forward to building on the momentum as they prepare for their next games. Both teams will play at Choctaw on Dec. 10 and have high hopes of continuing their winning streak.
