In anticipation of this year’s winter sports season, Santa Fe hosted an assembly in the large gym on Dec. 3.
Similar to other assemblies, students filed in as the pom and cheer teams performed. In a festive twist, their routines were set to popular Christmas songs. After opening remarks from Student Council (STUCO) presidents Sharrin Jones and Sara Hassan, senior Abigail Bennettt was called to sing the national anthem.
The pom team then delivered a special hip-hop routine before three players from both the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams took the spotlight to answer some questions. Both teams expressed excitement for the upcoming season.
“We are excited about the challenges this season presents,” head boys basketball coach Troy Lallemand said. “It’s the toughest schedule we’ve had in my 6 years here as the head coach, but our guys are truly looking forward to it.”
The assembly featured a game of student versus teacher dodgeball, with the students taking the win. Next, members of the swim and wrestling teams were called to the center of the court to share their thoughts on the upcoming competitive season.
“Santa Fe students can support the team by just showing up to the meets,” senior swim team member Sophia Starkey said. “They don’t sound super fun or exciting, but it’s cool to see when they are super close races.”
To support students beyond athletic achievements, senior broadcasting member Keara Lee was called to the court and awarded $3,500 for her submission to the Woodmen Life video contest.
To close out the event, STUCO members Ryan Robinson and Suri Fernandes announced the Double Wolf Dare Week (DWDW) theme: LEGO.
