Energy drinks and coffee are everywhere in the halls of Santa Fe high school. Students and teachers alike rely on caffeine for various reasons.
Whether it’s Celsius, Monster, Alani, Redbull or even coffee. Everyone who looks for that source of energy finds it somewhere.
Drama teacher Marisa Carr loves to drink Celsius, especially during show weeks and during the planning process. With all the stress and lack of sleep, an energy drink or two gets her through the day.
Carr has never tried any other energy drinks besides Celsius. Her favorite flavor is Kiwi Guava.
“I like the fact that it isn’t too sweet and that it also has a bit of tartness to it,” Marisa Carr said.
Sophomore Michael Swartz doesn’t have a preference on brand but more on the flavor.
“I love anything pink; Monster, Alani and RedBull, they are all amazing as long as they are pink,” Swartz said.
While energy drinks are really popular around Santa Fe, so is coffee.
Junior Camryn Paul is adamantly against energy drinks. She absolutely hates them and will only drink coffee.
“The only energy drink you will ever catch me drinking is energy teas from the nutrition places,” Paul said.
Jennifer Begansky, foreign language teacher, likes energy drinks but has a different take on them.
“I think energy drinks should be drunk in moderation, everyone should look at the ingredients and do their own research before drinking them,” Begansky said.
The Mayo Clinic states the recommended daily caffeine intake is 400 – 600 mg per day. This is equivalent to four cups of coffee, two energy drinks or ten cans of soda.
Bagansky also thinks that students should look at the health risks and make sure that they are not at risk because of certain health conditions they might have.
