Santa Fe’s art club is hosting a holiday drive from Nov. 1-Dec. 13 to support the unhoused youth of the community.
All donations go to SISU Youth Services, an organization that provides shelter to those from the ages of 15 to 22. The holidays can be a difficult time for many, but with the help of organizations like SISU, individuals can find the support they need to continue through tough times.
SISU wishes to provide a creative outlet for those facing challenging times. They are asking for supplies like sketchbooks, watercolors, crayons, markers, pens and paintbrushes which are great options. The drop-off location for donations is room 48 located in C hall.
“We do this to connect ourselves with the art community outside of the school, if we could just raise a box full of supplies it would be so helpful,” said Tiffany Nguyen, co-president of the art club and organizer of the supply drive.
Art can be a very therapeutic tool for self-expression. Anyone going through hardship can use art as a healthy coping mechanism.
“We want to open up creativity and imagination for people in need because a lot of them don’t have the materials they want or need and that leaves them being down for the holidays,” Nguyen said.
Additionally, every five dollars spent on art supplies or donated in cash counts as an hour of National Honor Society (NHS) credit or for Key Club.
