Santa Fe’s boys basketball team uses their teamwork to help the community. The boys basketball team has a new initiative to help the community.
Head basketball coach Troy Lallemand took the Wolves to pack and pass out meals for Hot Dogs for the Homeless on September 8. Hot Dogs for the Homeless not only supplies food for those in need, but also necessities like socks, toothbrushes and more.
“I always tell our kids that maybe we don’t have everything but we don’t have nothing, and some of these people literally have nothing,” Lallemand said.
The team started out by preparing and bagging meals which included; a hotdog, chips, water, a cookie and condiments. From there they handed out the sack lunches to whoever needed it.
“We wrapped condiments for an hour, then went downtown,” freshman Brogan Fitzpatrick said.
The team also did a reading day at Washington Irving Elementary on October 25. They spent the morning reading, playing games, passing out Kudos reading cards, giving stickers and answering questions from the kids.
“Even the guys admitted after they were done, ‘yeah it was a lot more fun than we thought,’” Lallemand said.
Two Wolves from Washington Irving Elementary won a ticket to Wolf Madness from winning the games they played.
Volunteering not only helps out the community but it also makes students see the world in a different perspective. By giving back to the community, it showed the students gratitude and kindness.
