Breakfast is an important meal for the majority of students at Santa Fe. However, some students skip breakfast, missing out on the advantages that it brings.
Having breakfast is a main part of a student’s daily life, and also comes with many benefits. The National Center for Health Statistics states that eating breakfast improves memory, test scores, attention spans and healthier body weights.
“It keeps you more focused and energized throughout the day,” sophomore Jacky Wen said.
The National Library of Medicine states that skipping breakfast comes with a higher BMI and poorer nutrient intake. Skipping breakfast can also affect students’ moods, making the day seem harder or less enjoyable.
“I don’t usually eat breakfast but I love food, so I’m happy when I do and tired and irritable when I don’t,” junior Avery Knapp said.
Not every student eats breakfast every day. Some may prefer not to eat breakfast if they don’t have the time, or they simply forget.
For most who don’t eat breakfast, it’s generally not a part of their morning routine. Those who skip breakfast can have noticeable effects.
“I feel like I’m more crabby, my stomach is always grumbling and it distracts me from school,” sophomore Eloise Stiglets said.
Although breakfast is often considered the most important meal of the day, some students still choose to skip it.
