It’s officially fall and that means it’s time to start planning Halloween costumes. Shopping for costumes can be daunting. This article offers a variety of costume ideas, including wardrobe items you may already have or that are easy to obtain.
1: Hannibal Lecter – Single
Dressing up as Hannibal Lecter will be unexpected. Depending on the costume type, you could be rolling around strapped to a dolly, but it’ll be worth seeing the look on your friend’s faces. In the movie, he goes through many costume changes but the most notable costume he wears is a prison jumpsuit, a clinical bite restraint mask, a straight jacket and he’s being pushed around on a dolly.
2: Celebrity- Single or group
I know it may seem boring but just because you can dress up as a celebrity doesn’t mean you have to dress up as one that has been done repeatedly. For example, instead of dressing up as someone like Marilyn Monroe, dress up as Chappell Roan. If you’re going trick-or-treating with a group of friends this year try dressing up as a band that everyone likes. Try dressing up as a new and rising star instead of something that’s already been done.
3: Monster High Characters– Group
Though it’s been done many times, it’s still a good group costume. I think the only reason these costumes could be considered basic is because when we see people dressed up as the Monster High girls it’s always the main eight characters. There are so many ways to dress up as a Monster High girl, and that’s not just dressing up how they did in Generation One. This year I challenge you to dress up as a character that’s not as popular, like Sarah Screams, Hoodoo Voodoo, Honey Swamp or Heath Burns.
4: A Bad Case of the Stripes – Single
If I had to describe A Bad Case of the Stripes in one word, it would be nostalgic. This book is truly a trip down memory lane. This is a simple yet iconic costume that no one else will have. It does require you to paint your face, but that’s just part of the Halloween experience. This is a fun costume for feeling nostalgic or having to dress up for an elementary school storybook character parade.
5: Barbie – Single
The most popular Halloween costume of 2023. Everyone did cowgirl Barbie because of the Barbie movie but there are so many other types of Barbie dolls. For example, there is Doctor Barbie, Air Force Barbie, Astronaut Barbie, Surgeon Barbie and Journalist Barbie. There’s also no one right way to do a Barbie costume so there are so many possibilities for costumes.
