Santa Fe welcomes new teacher and softball coach Kate James.
Physical activity has always been an important part of James’ life. She has been playing softball for 21 years and enjoys other forms of movement.
“I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, traveling, and I am one of those crazy people who enjoys running for fun,” James said.
James graduated from Fort Hays State University with two bachelor’s degrees in secondary education and one in history.
After teaching for seven years in Kansas, she moved to Oklahoma and began teaching at Santa Fe.
“I really enjoy teaching at Santa Fe. It has been such a fun experience and I enjoy my co-workers and students. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming and there is truly no better place to be in the state of Oklahoma than Santa Fe,” James said.
James got the inspiration to become a softball coach from her parents.
“My parents encouraged me while I was in college that when I was done playing I should give back to the game and coach,” James said “I started coaching an 18 and under team when I was only 19 or 20 and it was my former teammates. It was so fun and I love teaching the game and I knew I wanted to coach during that time.”
James expresses how she loves being a teacher because she has positive relationships with her teachers and coaches who helped her get through some of her toughest times in high school.
“I hope my students and athletes remember me as a teacher and coach who truly cares for them,” James said. “I hope they know that even when they leave Santa Fe, I will still be a person that they can count on to celebrate their successes.”
Santa Fe is grateful to have James as a new social studies teacher.
