This year’s Homecoming game falls on Sept. 27, when the Wolves will face off against Union. In preparation, students gathered in the large gym to crown the 2024 Homecoming king and queen.
“Homecoming means spirit and character,” student council (STUCO) member Sharrin Jones said. “It’s a time where our entire school gets together, all dressed up to welcome back alumni and to support each other. Homecoming is always my favorite part of the year.”
After senior Abigail Bennett sang the national anthem, STUCO members Chloe and Jewel introduced the Homecoming court. They first announced Santa Fe High School’s Prince, Easton Cotner and Princess Brynlee Beverage.
Announcers called each Homecoming nominee onto the floor, where they waited to hear the names of the king and queen.
“I wasn’t nervous in front of the crowd,” Demarius Robinson said. “I’m used to standing in front of a whole bunch of people.”
Demarius Robinson claimed the title of king, and Leah Smith was crowned queen.
“I was so surprised,” Smith said. “I felt honored to represent Pom and the many clubs and organizations that I’m a part of.”
Following the crowning, a video played, showing students in fall sports answering interesting questions. Cheer and pom (CHOM) performed a routine, and students passed around the spirit stick.
After a class competition, the football team gathered in the middle of the gym and sang the Santa Fe alma mater.
