After 13 years in education, English teacher Terry Buxton joins Santa Fe to continue his teaching career.
Just two days before the school year started, Buxton was hired as a 9th and 10th grade English teacher. Buxton previously taught in Tulsa and briefly in Oklahoma City Public schools. His first year at Edmond Public Schools has already been a journey.
“I really love the students, love the staff, it’s a great atmosphere and I’m really excited to be here,” Buxton said.
In his free time, Buxtons enjoys traveling, reading and watching legal dramas.
“I love bodies of water so I go to lakes and rivers and stuff like that,” Buxton said.
His favorite books include “The Warmth of Other Suns” by Isabel Wilkerson and “Before the Mayflower” by Lerone Bennett Jr. These books all contribute to the teacher’s love for African American History.
Beyond teaching, Buxton has also served as a pastor for 36 years and frequently reads books on theology. Combining his love for traveling and religion, Buxton visited a significant religious site.
“Last summer my wife and I visited the holy land,” Buxton said. “We traveled all throughout Israel and we went over into Seria. We spent a lot of time at the sea of Galilee. It was fantastic.”
As a man with many interests, Buxton describes himself as, “a father, husband, grandfather, pastor, teacher, jazz enthusiast and movie watcher.”
Santa Fe is happy to have Buxton as part of the staff.
