The Santa Fe Wolves varsity football team played its first home game of the season against the Edmond North Huskies on Friday, Sept. 6.
Before the game, the Fine Arts department hosted a tailgate, offering hotdogs, snacks, face painting, and games like cornhole.
“The tailgate this year was super fun,” sophomore Sierra Karl said. “I got to see all my friends, got our faces painted, played some fun yard games, and ate some amazing food thanks to the band and fine arts moms.”
The Wolves led by eight points at halftime, but at the start of the third quarter, North’s Drew Hudkins (DE#24) forced a fumble, giving the Huskies a prime opportunity to score.
As a quick response, Santa Fe’s Maliki Davis (WR,DB#14) scored a touchdown, extending the Wolves’ lead to 35-26.
Santa Fe students, dressed in neon gear, filled the stands and cheered for the team as the showdown continued.
“Chants get people super involved,” student section leader Ian Jenkins said. “The best part of being a student section leader is seeing all of the student involvement.”
Though the Wolves fought hard, the Huskies rallied, ending the game with a final score of 35-41.
